How to Measure Your Bra Size at Home: A Step-by-Step Guide

Wearing the wrong bra size is more common than you'd think — and it's rarely your fault. Sizing varies between brands, styles, and even fabric stretch. The good news is that measuring yourself accurately at home takes less than five minutes.

Step 1: Measure Your Band

Wrap a soft measuring tape snugly around your ribcage, directly under your bust, keeping it level all the way around. This number, rounded to the nearest even inch, is your band size.

Step 2: Measure Your Bust

Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your bust, keeping it level and not pulled tight. Note this measurement in inches.

Step 3: Find Your Cup Size

Subtract your band measurement from your bust measurement. Each inch of difference corresponds to a cup size — 1 inch is an A cup, 2 inches a B cup, 3 inches a C cup, and so on.

Signs You're Wearing the Wrong Size

  • The band rides up your back instead of sitting level
  • Straps dig into your shoulders or constantly slip
  • Cups gape at the top or spill over at the sides
  • You feel like you need to adjust it throughout the day

A Few Fit Tips

The band should do most of the support work, not the straps. If you're between sizes, it's usually better to size up in the band and down in the cup for a more comfortable fit. And remember — your size can change over time, so it's worth remeasuring every year or after any major lifestyle change.
